Kenny & The Kasuals

IMPACT 1965
Available only on CD - $15.00

Recorded live at the Studio Club on
Sherry Lane in Preston Center.

The tape was taken to Robin Hood Bryan's studios in Tyler Tx and mixed. We tweeked the recording, added E.Q. and  re-recorded some of the lead guitar.

Texas had without any doubt a great number of fine and very original bands during the 60s, with The 13th Floor Elevators at the very top of the list of course, The Chessman with Jimmy Vaughn and Doyle Bramhall, followed by almost forgotten groups that recorded whole albums like the great Golden Dawn, Lost & Found or the positively weird Red Crayola. There were also many garage bands that have appeared in countless comps since the early 80s.

Kenny & The Kasuals started early and until they split up in 1968, because of the draft, they recorded 7 singles and a rare album recorded live at the Studio Club and then taking to Robin Hood Studio’s in Tyler Texas and mixed. Basically all covers, with crowd noises added and released as "Impact - Live at the Studio Club" in 1967.

In 2007 a copy of  IMPACT  sold on E-Bay for $1000k.

I found it odd that there isn't yet a proper definitive collection of their work as they would deserve. French label Eva released a couple of albums gathering all their recordings including outtakes around 1983-'84, then reissued in one CD and I just read that there's a brand new authorized comp on vinyl only, that’s  being distributed out of Greece called The Singles 1966 – 1968. These songs are all originals by Kenny Daniel and Jerry Smith.   Certainly a must buy!

Kenny & The Kasuals reformed in 1977 and back then "Teen Dreams" was released...a kind of unreleased second album but in fact a brilliant collection of 1966-1967 original recordings (1 cover) that plays really well as an album, including among others the fantastic "Journey to Tyme", fuzz bass and all. There are many great garage-psych tunes from beginning to end.  Had it been released 10 years earlier it would be considered an all-time classic!

There is rumor that Kenny Daniel and Jerry Smith have started writing an all new original project due out in 2010. They will be joined by Danny Green the Kasuals guitarist now, and Dennis “Boom” Howard, the Kasuals drummer now and original bassist Lee Lightfoot, and original keyboards Paul Roach to recapture some of that great music of the 60’s in today’s world.  Maybe we can go home again.

Judge it yourself.

TEEN DREAMS  1966

Available only on CD - $15.00
This L.P. is still the most popular album we did. The songs were written by Jerry Smith and myself. Its become a cult recording all over the world and several songs are being played by several hot band from Boston to Austrailla. "Come on Kid" is one the most copied songs on it. I took the melody from " The Work Song" by Dave Brubeck and used that melody for the lyrics.

1966 - 1968 The SINGLES

"Journey to Tyme" is on there. Recorded on the finest vinyl money can buy, it is  A MUST for any record collector.

GARAGE KINGS  1979
Available only on CD - $15.00
This was our punk days as we were opening for bands like Patty Smith, The Runaway's, Iggy Pop, The Ramones, It is not my favorite however there are some nice songs on the album.  Makes No Difference is a very nice song and has three harmonies on that cut that I'm very proud of. Gordo, the engineer, did a great job on that L.P.

BATTLEZONE  1983
Available only on CD - $15.00
Lots of live recordings on this one. It is mostly taking from a early morning grand opening of a Sound Warehouse store in north dallas at 10 am.  We did a live remote on the radio KZEW and I believe Gregs wife recorded it on reel to reel off the radio. It wasnt bad and is one of my favorites. Karl (LaFong) Burkelbile played hammon organ and was on the road with us as a Kasual for a few years...

NO EXIT  1980s
Available only on CD or Vinyl - $15.00
Recorded in the 80's at a friends studio for fun. It was never released to the public. It was pressed to vinyl, as Cd's were not available at this time. The recording did not come out  as good as we had liked, and the L.P. was put aside. We rediscovered the potential of this project in 2009 and with today's technology made a CD from the vinyl L.P. Steve Story, our engineer,  worked on the transfer and added some E.Q. enhanced the guitars and vocals, turned into stereo, and made it a very good CD. It says it all, there will be "NO EXIT"! FREE SHIPPING this CD/VINYL ONLY.

SUMMERFIELD  1973-1976
Available only on CD - $15.00
"The Summerfield Band" one of the most talented bands I ever played in. After returning from the Army in 1970, the Kasuals were disbanded and the music in Texas was now "progressive country". It took me until 1974 to put together a fantastic band and we wowed them at Willie Nelsons picnics, we played with the Nitty Gritty Dirt band, Asleep at the Wheel, Leon Russell, Jerry Jeff Walker, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Greazy Wheels, and list goes on. It ended in 1978. I miss this band...
